TMJ TreatmentTMJ.jpg

The Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) is the hinge joint that connects the lower jaw to skull.  Muscles and cartilage surround and cover this joint and allow for its proper function.  Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) occur as a result of problems with the jaw, jaw joint and surrounding facial muscles that control chewing and moving the jaw.  TMD can be caused by grinding or clenching of the teeth, dislocation of the soft cushion or disc in the joint, arthritis, stress, or trauma to the joint or head.  Your symptoms may include tenderness of the face, joint, neck or shoulders; limited ability to open widely; or your jaw getting stuck.  TMD can cause many similar symptoms as other conditions including a toothache, sinus problems, arthritis, or gums disease.  The doctors as Mashni Dentistry perform a careful patient history and physical examination to determine the cause of your symptoms and the best treatment.

Sleep and Snoring Treatment

SnoringandApnea.jpgSleep Apnea and associated snoring are estimated to effect one in 15 Americans.  Sleep Apnea is a disorder in which you have pausing in breathing lasting a few seconds to minutes while you are sleeping.  Sleep Apnea often goes undiagnosed because it is easily overlooked in routine doctors visits.   Diagnosis of Sleep Apnea is made after going through a sleep study which can be done at home or in a medical facility.  Untreated sleep apnea can increase blood pressure, risk of heart attack and stroke, obesity, risk for diabetes, and in severe cases can cause death.  This is a chronic condition that requires long term management.  It can be treated with lifestyle changes, mouthpieces, surgery or breathing devices.  At Mashni Dentistry we asses your health history and perform a careful examination and determine your risk for sleep apnea so that we can guide you in your way to any treatment needed.
